What's inside the JBL 305P MkII / 'teardown' / Quick Repair

Okay, "teardown" is a stretch.  What really happened?   I leaned back in my chair and knocked one of my speakers over and it crashed onto a $12 Ikea Lack table.  The crash broke the 1/8" to 1/4" TRS audio adapter I was using, but also broke the power inlet PCB inside the speaker.  So as I was repairing it, I took a few photos.  Sorry for the terrible photo quality, but I wasn't thinking of doing a real teardown, but here goes.

Taking off the back plate, we can see how the thing is put together.  Power supply, signal processing, and power amp all on one board.  The bass port is also mounted to the same back plate.

The PCB is fairly straight forward.   The Bottom has the power supply, and the top portion is the business end.

Looks like the brains of the device is an ST stm8s005k6t6c, which is an ultra-cheapo 8-bit micro.  The ADC is a Cirrus CS5341.  The DAC/Power Amp is an ST STA350BW 2x 50 Watt "digital audio system".  The STA350BW surely handles all the signal processing, which in the case of a studio monitor should be basically crossover, equalization, and not much else.

After pulling the main PCB off, we get down to the damaged part, and the janky repair.  I should use more proper wiring for this... I know.  Be sure to click on the photos to see them big and see all of them.

And... good as new :-)

And... finally, inside the box is very simple.  Just a box, with absorption on the walls, and a woofer and tweeter.  Doesn't get much more simple than this.
